Having started its circulation at the beginning of this year, the exhibition 'What is Watt?', carried out by António Barros, António Dantas, Carlos Valente, Celeste Cerqueira, Evangelina Sirgado de Sousa, Hugo Olim, Pedro Pestana and Silvestre Pestana, returns to the Region, after passing through national territory, specifically the city of Porto.
Therefore, organized by APCA - Agency for the Promotion of Atlantic Culture, the Casa da Cultura de Santana is preparing to host the exhibition from the 12th of August, Monday, extending until the 13th of September. The opening is scheduled for 4pm on August 12th, with free entry.
As has been happening in recent times, it will still be possible to watch the full documentary of the exhibition ‘What is Watt?’, directed by Hugo Olim.
‘What is Watt?’ is an interdisciplinary artistic project that, since 2001, has brought together a group of artists with the aim of developing diverse works, through multiple uses of existing technological resources. The project refers to the questioning of artistic praxis in contemporary times, which meets emerging technologies and the resulting availability of global participation. That is, a widespread tendency towards the dematerialization of the work of art is recognized, which corresponds to multiple connections between art, science and technology.
Founded by Silvestre Pestana, Celeste Cerqueira and António Dantas, with activity since 2001, its genesis was to promote the encounter between the languages of video art from different cultures, proposing the dissemination and assimilation of experiences, methods and knowledge to enhance thought-action and creativity-innovation relationships in the changing experiences of contemporary society in the world. The project aims to achieve two main vectors: on the one hand, to establish the creative heritage with a strong Madeiran flavor in the field of new media and experimental poetry, and on the other, to offer the public the opportunity to rediscover the project that has already celebrated more than 20 years, through the establishment of a new traveling exhibition.
Remember that 'What is Watt?' opened the 19th edition of the MADEIRADiG festival - International Festival dedicated to electronic and experimental music, which takes place every year, in December, on the west coast of Madeira Island and went on sale at the beginning of this year, having already passed through São Vicente, Porto Santo, Machico and even nationally, in the city of Porto.
This project has the support of the Portuguese Republic / Culture and the Directorate-General for the Arts.
